Numatic HZ390S H-Class Industrial Hazardous Dust Extractor
The Numatic HZ390S H-Class Single Motor Industrial Hazardous Dust Extractor is the specialised "Standard" version of the 390 series. It features the exact same high-performance 960W motor, 18-litre capacity, and H-Class filtration system as the HZ390L, but utilises a fixed carry-handle chassis instead of the collapsible pull-handle. This makes the HZ390S the ideal choice for contractors who require a more compact, low-profile machine that is easier to lift into high-shelf van racking or carry through tight residential corridors, without sacrificing the heavy-duty capacity and power of the larger models.
Available in 240Volt and 110Volt. Please select your preferred operating voltage.
HZ390S Core Features & High-Level H-Class Protection
The Numatic HZ390S provides the same 18-litre collection volume as the "L" version, making it a significant 20% capacity upgrade over the standard HZ370.
Compact "S" Chassis Design
- Standard Fixed Handle: By removing the collapsible trolley handle found on the "L" version, the HZ390S remains shorter and more compact. This makes it easier to store in small vehicles and more manageable for tradespeople who prefer to carry their equipment.
- 18-Litre Structofoam Drum: Built with Numatic’s legendary Structofoam technology—providing the strength and durability of an industrial steel drum but with the lightweight manoeuvrability of plastic.
- Low Center of Gravity: The "S" chassis is designed for maximum stability. Equipped with 360-degree swivel castors, it follows the operator effortlessly without the risk of tipping over on cluttered sites.
H-Class Certified HEPA H13 Filtration (IEC/EN 60335-2-69)
- Absolute Containment: Identical to the HZ390L, this model features the all-steel HEPA H13 filter module, factory-certified to capture microscopic particles down to 0.3 microns.
- Triple-Stage Safety: Uses the same three-layer defence: 1) HepaFlo Dust Bag NVM-2BH; 2) TriTex Primary Filter; and 3) HEPA H13 Module.
Professional Engineering
- Powerful 960W TwinFlo Motor: Delivering a consistent 48 L/sec airflow, providing the same industrial suction power as the larger 570 and 900 series models.
- NuCable System: Includes the 10m plugged replaceable cable, allowing for instant, tool-free cable swaps on-site if damage occurs.
🏭 Where the Numatic HZ390S Can Be Used (Applications)
Because it shares the internal specs of the "L" model but in a more compact frame, it is the top choice for:
- Residential Chimney Sweeping: The 18L capacity handles heavy soot falls, while the fixed-handle design makes it easier to carry into living rooms and tight hearth areas.
- Asbestos Remediation: Perfect for licensed and non-licensed work where a robust, easy-to-decontaminate Structofoam drum is required.
- Lead Paint & Silica Control: A reliable partner for decorators and masons who need high-capacity dust capture in a portable format.
☣️ What Material the HZ390S is Certified to Collect
Certified for materials with a Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) of <0.1 mg/m³.
- High-Hazard: Asbestos, Lead Dust, Soot, Creosote, and Mould Spores.
- Medium-Hazard: Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS), Hardwood, and MDF Dust.
📦 What Accessories Are Included?
-
AA18 Professional Accessory Kit (32mm): Includes a 2.4m Nuflex threaded hose, stainless steel extension tubes, a 280mm gulper tool, and specialised hazardous dusting brushes.
💡 Why Buy the Numatic HZ390S?
- Identical Specs to the HZ390L: You get the same power and capacity in a more compact, carry-friendly format.
- Guaranteed Legal Compliance: Fully meets all HSE requirements for the extraction of high-risk dusts (COSHH).

Understanding H-Class Vacuum Cleaners: Safety & Compliance Explained
In industrial and specialist environments where dust is not just a nuisance but a life-threatening hazard—such as asbestos removal, lead abatement, or pharmaceutical manufacturing—even M-Class equipment is not enough. For the most dangerous airborne particles, H-Class vacuum cleaners are the only legally compliant and safe solution.
What is an H-Class Vacuum Cleaner?
H-Class (High-Hazard Class) is the highest international safety standard for professional dust extraction. While M-Class vacuums are designed for medium-risk dusts, H-Class machines are engineered to contain highly carcinogenic, pathogenic, and toxic materials.
A vacuum certified to H-Class standards is guaranteed to capture at least 99.995% of the dust it processes. These machines utilize HEPA H14 filtration (the highest grade) and are built with fully sealed chassis. Unlike standard vacuums, every H-Class unit is individually tested and certified to ensure no hazardous fibres can bypass the filter or leak through the casing.
Why Are H-Class Vacuums Important?
When dealing with "High-Hazard" materials, the margin for error is zero. Using H-Class equipment is a mandatory requirement for specialized sectors:
- Maximum Health Protection: H-Class vacuums are designed to trap microscopic particles like asbestos fibres and lead dust, which can cause terminal illnesses such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and systemic poisoning.
- Legal Compliance (COSHH & HSE): In the UK, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and COSHH regulations mandate H-Class extraction for any material with a Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) of less than 0.1 mg/m³. Failure to use certified equipment can lead to massive fines, site closures, and legal prosecution.
- Strict Containment & Disposal: H-Class vacuums feature "low-dust" or "dust-free" bag change systems. This ensures that when the vacuum is full, workers are not exposed to a "dust cloud" during disposal—a common failure point in lesser machines.
- Acoustic & Visual Safety Alarms: To comply with BS EN 60335-2-69, these machines include integrated sensors that trigger an audible alarm if the airflow drops below 20m/s, alerting the operator to a blockage or filter saturation immediately.
Materials Requiring H-Class Collection
H-Class vacuums are required for dusts contaminated with carcinogens, pathogens, or toxic substances where the exposure limit is extremely low.
| Material Type | Common Sources & Hazards |
| Asbestos | Licensed and non-licensed removal of lagging, floor tiles, and textured coatings. |
| Lead Dust | Stripping lead-based paints, renovation of heritage buildings, or firing range maintenance. |
| Silica (RCS) | High-intensity grinding or cutting of stone and concrete (where H-Class provides a higher safety margin than M-Class). |
| Carcinogenic Dusts | Processing of materials containing bitumen, tar, nickel, cobalt, copper, or cadmium. |
| Pathogenic Hazards | Mould spores, bacteria, germs, and pharmaceutical waste in lab or clinical settings. |
| Highly Toxic Finishes | Sanding of certain chemical-heavy coatings, resins, and formaldehyde-based materials. |
⚠️ Important Safety Note: H-Class Compliance
H-Class extraction is a life-safety requirement. Because exposure to toxic, carcinogenic, or pathogenic dusts (such as asbestos or respirable crystalline silica) can lead to fatal respiratory diseases, a formal COSHH Risk Assessment must be conducted to determine the correct filtration level for your specific materials.
Standard industrial vacuums are not sufficient for high-hazard environments. For official UK guidance on the selection and use of H-Class equipment, please refer to the HSE Usin a H-Class Vacuum Cleaner page.
