Numatic HZ390L H-Class Industrial Hazardous Dust Extractor
When portability meets professional-grade containment, the Numatic HZ390L H-Class Single Motor Industrial Hazardous Dust Extractor stands out as the ultimate "all-terrain" solution. Built on the rugged 390 chassis, the "L" model is defined by its extendable pull-handle and large rear wheels, allowing you to transport a fully certified 18-litre H-Class vacuum across gravel, up stairs, and through demanding site environments with ease. It is engineered to meet the highest safety standards (IEC/EN 60335-2-69) for the absolute containment of carcinogenic and health-endangering dusts.
Available in 240Volt and 110Volt. Please select your preferred operating voltage.
HZ390L Core Features & Unrivalled H-Class Filtration
The Numatic HZ390L is not just a standard vacuum with a better handle; it is a high-performance extraction system designed for 99.995% filtration efficiency.
H-Class Certified Filtration ((IEC/EN 60335-2-69)
- HEPA H13 Filter Module: The heart of the unit is a large HEPA H13 cartridge filter housed in a secure, all-steel module. This ensures that even the finest hazardous particles (down to 0.3 microns) are trapped and never recirculated into the air.
- Triple-Stage Containment: Safety is guaranteed through three layers: 1) HepaFlo Dust Bag NVM-2BH(Primary containment); 2) TriTex Primary Filter (Protecting the HEPA module); and 3) HEPA H13 Filter (The final barrier).
"L" Model All-Terrain Mobility
- Extendable Folding Handle: The "L" (Long Handle) specification allows the operator to pull the vacuum like a trolley, significantly reducing the physical strain of carrying equipment across large sites or up ramps.
- Large Rear Wheels: Unlike compact models with small castors, the HZ390L features oversized rear wheels for superior stability on uneven ground, making it the most mobile 18L H-Class unit on the market.
- 18L High-Capacity Structofoam Drum: The drum is manufactured from Structofoam, a unique material that is as strong as steel but significantly lighter, offering massive 18-litre capacity without the weight penalty.
Industrial Engineering
- Powerful 960W Motor: The long-life TwinFlo motor provides a consistent 48 L/sec airflow, delivering the high-suction lift required for heavy hazardous debris.
-
NuCable System: Equipped with the 10m plugged replaceable cable, allowing for instant, tool-free cable swaps on-site to maintain 100% uptime.
🏭 Where the Numatic HZ390L Can Be Used (Applications)
The HZ390L is the primary choice for mobile contractors who need a higher capacity than the compact HZ200 but require more mobility than the stationary HZ570.
- Mobile Asbestos Remediation: Perfect for surveying and non-licensed removal where you need to move equipment frequently between rooms or floors.
- Site-Wide Construction Cleanup: The all-terrain wheels make it ideal for cleaning up Silica Dust (RCS) and lead-paint residue across large, unfinished construction sites.
- Property Restoration: Easily transported in the back of a van, the folding handle makes it a favourite for fire and flood restoration specialists dealing with soot and mould spores.
- School & Hospital Maintenance: The 18L capacity is large enough for general maintenance of older building stock where asbestos insulation or legacy hazardous materials are present.
☣️ What Material the HZ390L is Certified to Collect
The HZ390L is certified to capture dusts with a Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) of <0.1 mg/m³.
High-Hazard (H-Class) Materials
- Asbestos: Fibres from legacy insulation, tiling, and textured coatings.
- Lead Dust: From sanding or disturbing old lead-based paint on door frames and windows.
- Carcinogenic Dusts: Including Mould Spores, Formaldehyde, Nickel, and Tar.
Medium-Hazard (M-Class) Materials
- Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS): From cutting, grinding, or breaking Concrete and Stone.
- Hardwood Dust: Dust generated from Oak, Beech, or MDF.
📦 What Accessories Are Included with the HZ390L?
-
AA18 Professional Accessory Kit: The HZ390L comes with a versatile tool kit, including a 2.2m Nuflex hose, stainless steel tubes, a 280mm gulper/scraper tool, and specialised hazardous dusting brushes.
💡 Why Buy the Numatic HZ390L?
Choosing the HZ390L is an investment in mobility and health. It is designed for those who work "on the move" and cannot be slowed down by heavy, stationary equipment.
- Guaranteed Legal Compliance (COSHH): Meets all HSE requirements for handling high-risk dusts.
- Unmatched Portability: The combination of the folding handle and large wheels means you can move an 18L vacuum with the effort required for a much smaller machine.

Understanding H-Class Vacuum Cleaners: Safety & Compliance Explained
In industrial and specialist environments where dust is not just a nuisance but a life-threatening hazard—such as asbestos removal, lead abatement, or pharmaceutical manufacturing—even M-Class equipment is not enough. For the most dangerous airborne particles, H-Class vacuum cleaners are the only legally compliant and safe solution.
What is an H-Class Vacuum Cleaner?
H-Class (High-Hazard Class) is the highest international safety standard for professional dust extraction. While M-Class vacuums are designed for medium-risk dusts, H-Class machines are engineered to contain highly carcinogenic, pathogenic, and toxic materials.
A vacuum certified to H-Class standards is guaranteed to capture at least 99.995% of the dust it processes. These machines utilize HEPA H14 filtration (the highest grade) and are built with fully sealed chassis. Unlike standard vacuums, every H-Class unit is individually tested and certified to ensure no hazardous fibres can bypass the filter or leak through the casing.
Why Are H-Class Vacuums Important?
When dealing with "High-Hazard" materials, the margin for error is zero. Using H-Class equipment is a mandatory requirement for specialized sectors:
- Maximum Health Protection: H-Class vacuums are designed to trap microscopic particles like asbestos fibres and lead dust, which can cause terminal illnesses such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and systemic poisoning.
- Legal Compliance (COSHH & HSE): In the UK, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and COSHH regulations mandate H-Class extraction for any material with a Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) of less than 0.1 mg/m³. Failure to use certified equipment can lead to massive fines, site closures, and legal prosecution.
- Strict Containment & Disposal: H-Class vacuums feature "low-dust" or "dust-free" bag change systems. This ensures that when the vacuum is full, workers are not exposed to a "dust cloud" during disposal—a common failure point in lesser machines.
- Acoustic & Visual Safety Alarms: To comply with BS EN 60335-2-69, these machines include integrated sensors that trigger an audible alarm if the airflow drops below 20m/s, alerting the operator to a blockage or filter saturation immediately.
Materials Requiring H-Class Collection
H-Class vacuums are required for dusts contaminated with carcinogens, pathogens, or toxic substances where the exposure limit is extremely low.
| Material Type | Common Sources & Hazards |
| Asbestos | Licensed and non-licensed removal of lagging, floor tiles, and textured coatings. |
| Lead Dust | Stripping lead-based paints, renovation of heritage buildings, or firing range maintenance. |
| Silica (RCS) | High-intensity grinding or cutting of stone and concrete (where H-Class provides a higher safety margin than M-Class). |
| Carcinogenic Dusts | Processing of materials containing bitumen, tar, nickel, cobalt, copper, or cadmium. |
| Pathogenic Hazards | Mould spores, bacteria, germs, and pharmaceutical waste in lab or clinical settings. |
| Highly Toxic Finishes | Sanding of certain chemical-heavy coatings, resins, and formaldehyde-based materials. |
⚠️ Important Safety Note: H-Class Compliance
H-Class extraction is a life-safety requirement. Because exposure to toxic, carcinogenic, or pathogenic dusts (such as asbestos or respirable crystalline silica) can lead to fatal respiratory diseases, a formal COSHH Risk Assessment must be conducted to determine the correct filtration level for your specific materials.
Standard industrial vacuums are not sufficient for high-hazard environments. For official UK guidance on the selection and use of H-Class equipment, please refer to the HSE Usin a H-Class Vacuum Cleaner page.
